Maryland Federal Workers honored for Excellence in Public Service

Baltimore – May 3, 2013, the Baltimore Federal Executive Board (FEB) conducted the 46th Excellence in Federal Career Awards Luncheon and Ceremony. This historic, regional, federal employee recognition program is in conjunction with Public Service Recognition Week (May 5 - 11) honoring and recognizing the accomplishments and outstanding job performance of Federal employees.   Nearly 600 Federal officials, employees and military service members, family members and guests from agencies throughout Maryland attended this prestigious event.


The event, hosted by the Chair of the Baltimore Federal Executive Board, Dr. Reginald F. Wells, Deputy Commissioner for Human Resources for the Social Security Administration, was held at Martin’s West in Baltimore and featured the Baltimore Area U.S. Coast Guard Color Guard.  Maryland Senator’s Barbara A. Mikulski and Benjamin L. Cardin and Representative Elijah E. Cummings presented letters of recognition to the Gold and Silver award winners.

Furlough Guidance


Federal Employees:  Please contact your agency’s human resources office for the latest information on how the furlough program may affect your agency. 


Some agencies will furlough their employees and some will not (due to differences in their financial status) or may reduce the number of furlough days through the end of FY2013.

Baltimore FEB Executive Board Member sworn in...

On 22 January 2013, a Baltimore Federal Executive Board Member was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court. Kenneth P. Gornic (pictured far left)  is an Attorney with the US Army Recruiting Command and a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Air Force Reserve. Six Supreme Court Justices presided over his swearing-in ceremony - Chief Justice Roberts, as well as Justices Kagan, Thomas, Ginsburg, Breyer, and Kennedy.

Leadership Training Rescheduled

The four sessions in this two-day course are designed to improve the leadership effectiveness of federal employees. Presented and led by Jerry Strom, creator of the highly acclaimed ‘Six Core Competencies of Leadership’ training series, this class builds essential leadership skills associated with OPM’s recommended ‘Executive Core Qualifications’ for leadership.

Incorporating recent surveys and research within the federal sector, you’ll improve business acumen, the capacity to lead change, lead people, drive results, and build coalitions.
